A few weeks ago I asked in a ‘designer’ group if anyone had inspiration for a dress that would work well with a knit border panel, and the Isla Infinity Tunic and Dress by Simple Life Pattern Co. was suggested. I’ve been enjoying trying out new patterns and designers lately, so I happily downloaded and printed out the pattern (it was given to me for free, all opinions are my own).
The dress has quite a few options, but I did the dropped waist dress version. My daughter measured a 4 width and 6 length, but I cut a straight 6 because she doesn’t like tight fitting clothing. It was a quick and easy sew, but I did learn a new technique. This was the first time I had ever done a fully lined knit bodice like this, and I really love the results. The pattern doesn’t have the bodice ruffles as an option for the dropped waist version, but I added them myself.
The fabric is a custom print from True North Fabrics. I normally don’t buy a lot of custom fabrics, but my daughters are nuts about penguins and insisted on these! The cotton lycra is nice and thick and so far has held up well in the wash.
This dress is a perfect ‘every day school dress’ but I have another one planned for my oldest daughter in more special occasion fabrics.
