Hello. I am so excited to be here with Jessica and celebrate here coming bundle of love with this virtual Baby Shower! I am Gemia, from Phat Quarters and I am no stranger to babies. I am a Mummy of 5 little beasties and Leah, who is the other half of Phat Quarters, has 3 – the youngest just 3 months. Today I am going to share a tutorial with you that has saved my privacy many-a-times. I have been blessed to be able to nurse all 5 of my children, and while I am all for the amazing attention and support that breast-feeding mothers have received in the last few year, I am also a very private person. Having 5 children has it challenges and one of those is nursing my babies when they are hungry no matter where they are. I have tried many different ‘nursing covers’ and today I am sharing with you my favorite;
The Nursing Infinity Scarf. This is a very quick and simple project and I hope you will love it as much as I do. ***Please remember this is not a sling, this is a scarf with the duel purpose to maintain your privacy (aka boob coverage) while nursing.
The Infinity Nursing Scarf
2 – 3 Yards of breathable double-sided or solid Knit: You want a breathable knit so that your wee one does not get too hot. We have some great knits available in our SHOP right now that would be great for this project. You should take a string and test out the yardage that will be best for you. Remember that you will have a baby on you as well. I nurse my babies for around 12-14 months so add a little extra so that you have room for you baby to grow. Here is my suggested breakdown.
- small – 2 yards
- medium – 2.5 yards
- large – 3 yards
- for example: if I am making a small I will cut the fabric to 30″x 72″
Serge the two short ends right sides together (RST) If you do not have a serger you can use a zig-zag or stretch stitch on your sewing machine to accomplish this step.
