When I first thought of holding a virtual baby shower, I had envisioned a small blog series just to keep the blog going while I had a break post baby. Was I ever wrong!! I’ve been blown away, both by the incredible guest bloggers and their projects, but also by the number of people who have followed along and joined in the linky party! There are now free tutorials and patterns for nearly everything you’ll need for a little baby; just click on ‘Baby Shower‘ under the blog header to see them all.
I didn’t want to completely sit out and miss the fun, so I joined in by sewing up a few of the pattern submitted by some very talented bloggers.
First is the Harvey V-neck tee by Once Upon a Sewing Machine. V necks are so stylish for little boys. The pattern is drafted for newborns 8-13 lbs and fits my 9.5 lb little guy perfectly! The V neck is a bit tricky if you’ve never done one before, but this pattern walks you through the process and makes it so easy to have professional results (that is, until your coverstitch decides to have a fit just as you topstitch the front of the V…grrr…). OUSM also has a version that includes sizes 12 months – 8 years along with colour blocked and pocket options.
I paired the tee with the free newborn pants pattern from Climbing the Willow. She shares three version on her blog: yoga waist, FOE waist, and regular waist. I chose the last option. These also fit perfectly, with about 1/2″ of room to grow in the length. This was a super fast sew; you could create a whole wardrobe of these comfy pants in no time at all!
Finally I’ve accessorized my little guy with the very practical scratch mitts designed by From A Box. He tries to suck on his thumbs, but ends up scratching his little face in the process. This project also came together very quickly, and I have 3 more pairs cut out! They are a bit larger than the store bought kind (and actually fit!) and stay on without being too tight on the wrists.
Don’t forget, you can join the fun too! Submit your baby sewing below, and be entered to win some great prizes. The contest closes on Sunday, so you still have some time. There is even a prize for sewing up one of the tutorials featured in the Baby Shower!
