Welcome back to week 2 of Embellish is for BOYS!
Last week we learned all about freezer paper stenciling. We saw some amazing projects in the linky party, and gave away free pattern and fabric. We are going to do it all over again this week, but with applique!
Applique is essentially taking one piece of fabric and sewing it over top of another. It is seen often in quilting, but is also popular on clothing.
How it will work:
Every week will have a theme and a pattern sponsor. I will introduce them on Monday (today!) and provide a tutorial for the theme on Tuesday (that’s tomorrow!).
Readers are invited to try their hand at the technique and link up their creations (linky party will be revealed on Tuesday) for a chance to be featured at the end of the week and win a prize! You can also enter to win a copy of the pattern of the week! Scroll down for the entry form.
This is the project I completed for this week.
A snazzy shirt done in a heathered green jersey knit. The adorable model is my nephew, and the camera applique is just perfect for his mom who is a professional photographer. She was gracious enough to lend me her son and her photography skills for this week.
Tomorrow I will post, step by step, how you can make your own appliqued tee!
The pattern I used was Figgy’s Banyan Tee, and Figgy’s will also be giving away a copy of their pattern this week! Shelly Figueroa has been publishing patterns since 2008 and it also the author of the popular “Sewing for Boys” book.
You can buy your own copy of the Banyan Tee pattern here, or enter the rafflecopter giveaway below!
Our fabric sponsor for this week is the Purple Seamstress.
You can find her on her site, but all the action happens on the facebook group. Mel lists the fabric she has for sale and you can comment to purchase. The variety is incredible, with many knits that you can’t find anywhere else.
If you come back tomorrow, and add your applique project to our linky party, you will be entered to win a yard of fabric from her shop.
