Hi all! My name is Elizabeth and I blog over at hamiltonchicklets with my talented sister Sara. I am so excited to be a part of the Embellish is for Boys series! I am a big fan of adding extra details to the clothing I make and find that I add them far more frequently to my sons clothing than my daughters. My son Daxton turned two a couple weeks ago and has started to become very opinionated about what he wears. Since he is in love with planes, trains, and automobiles, I figured that appliquéing a plane should guarantee that he actually wears what I make him!
I decided to make Dax a pair of summer pj’s using two of my favourite patterns, the recess raglan from SeeKateSew and the fancy pant leggings from Titchy Threads. To make the plane appliqué, I enlisted my much more artistically talented husband. I asked him to pick an image from the internet that he then drew for me to use as my template for the appliqué.
I wanted to mix a couple different fabrics so I made the body of the plane from some red jersey and the wings and propeller from some black and white triangle fabric (both fabrics from Girl Charlee).
The final detail I added was some motion dashes using embroidery floss to make it look like the plane was flying across his shirt.
I am super happy with how these turned out and Dax seems to love it! Thanks so much for having me Jess!
