Sometimes I’m the parent that is on the ball, with all upcoming events written carefully in my day planner and costumes prepped weeks before. Not this time!
My kindergartner reminded me about her Pirate Party coming up tomorrow, and there was a moment of panic for this mama! But, after a quick google image search for ‘pirate costume’, and a search through her dresser, we came up with an acceptable costume.
The pants were a super quick sew. I used the Ginger Baby Active Classics pattern, just doing a raw edge zigzag on the bottom hem. I’ll probably hem them properly next week so they can be worn as capri length pajama pants.
The sash is a long rectangle of some satin that I serged the edges of since it frays like crazy. The eye patch is two layers of interfaced jersey knit, with a piece of fold over elastic sandwiched in between.
I also made the head scarf: a 20″ square of stained jersey crib sheet with a heat transfer vinyl skull and crossbones that I cut on my Silhouette.
Finally, we found a nautical themed tee from Old Navy in her dresser, and used her sister’s dress boots. The gun was purchased for my Calamity Jane costume, although it now features penguin duck tape holding it together!
My little girl is thrilled, and very excited about her party! So glad I was able to make it happen 🙂
