I had been eyeing the Mimi dress by Filles a Maman for quite a while, so I was thrilled to see it part of the Perfect Pattern Parcel for girls.
I chose to sew a size 5 for my just very petite 7 year old. The fabric I used was a fun geometric print from Girl Charlee and the contrast is a cotton lycra knit.
The pattern is excellent as written, so I didn’t need to make any changes. The only thing I modified, to save time, was to use a hair elastic for the button closure loop so that I didn’t have to turn a tiny fabric tube (although she gives fantastic instructions on how to do this in the tutorial!).
The method of using facings for the hem was new to me, but it is such a lovely way to finish off the curved hem.
You can read more about the Perfect Pattern Parcel here. Remember, YOU choose the price and you are helping support children in schools while you get some great new patterns!
Be sure to come back tomorrow for the last look I sewed up from the parcel.
