I haven’t posted much lately…I wish I could say it was because I’ve been sewing but life with 4 kids and a part time job is keeping me busy! However, I did have some time to sew up a dress for my second daughter. We have a family wedding coming up next week, a Christmas concert tonight, and a piano recital, so I wanted something that would work for all these events. My daughter however is quite the picky customer. Her requirements: comfy, stretchy fabric, and no buttons or zippers. Luckily for her, the Petra Dress is the perfect fit!
I did make a few modifications. Instead of a 6 gore skirt, I cut a full circle skirt. You can tape the skirt pattern pieces together for the same effect (don’t forget to take away the seam allowances) or use a circle skirt calculator like this one. Hint: a gored skirt uses WAY less fabric than a circle skirt! I also sewed some wide elastic at the waistband for a different look.
The top is also fully lined with bamboo lycra; no scratchy seams here! She is wearing a simple tulle petticoat that normally hangs out in our dress up box, but the dress is lovely without it too!
So, if you still have a holiday dress to sew, check out the Petra Dress and Tee! It is a super quick sew (less than 2 hours including printing and taping the pattern), is very comfortable and warm, and is super stylish!
