This past week we have had several days of beautiful 10 C weather, and I am happily watching the snow melt away. To celebrate the end of winter, I made my oldest daughter a new Sunday outfit.
For the skirt, I used a new pattern for me: Oliver & S Sailboat skirt. I really enjoy Oliver & S patterns; their instructions are very clear and even after all the sewing I’ve done, I still learn a new technique every time I sew up one of their designs.
Before I began, I measured my daughter and her waist measurement lined up with the 18 months size, so I knew I couldn’t just sew up a size 6 (the size that corresponds to her height). I traced the size 4, and added 3” to the length. I also used a much shorter piece of elastic in the back than the pattern calls for.
Because my daughter does not always sit like a grown up lady (and why should she, she is only 6!) I made her a pair of leggings. I used Ottobre 4/2012 #15 Hopsis leggings and used a piece of white cotton lycra jersey knit that I had left over from another project.
The shirt is made from a beautiful jersey knit I won from a giveaway on the Farbenmix blog. I love the feel of this fabric, and can’t wait to use the rest of it for another project. I used Jalie 2804 for the pattern. I love these patterns because they go from size 2T to ladies plus size 22 so I can use the pattern for myself as well. This pattern is drafted to be slim fitting, so I traced a straight size 6.
She is happy, so I am too!
