Last Saturday I had the pleasure of attending a quilt retreat with a group of wonderful, talented women. I’m pretty new to quilting, but I was encouraged and assisted every step of the way.
For this project I used a charm pack from Moda. I bought it at Quilt Essentials in St Albert. I highly recommend this shop; the staff there were so helpful in choosing fabric and made my children and I feel very welcome.
Another first for me was this type of free motion quilting. I had nothing but grief at the beginning: my spool of thread had all little bits of thread wound into it, causing it to constantly break. After a lot of stitch ripping, and switching over to polyester thread, I finally got going and finished the quilting in one evening.
The plan is for this to be a table runner in my kitchen, but it doesn’t match the current yellow paint, so it is hanging out on my living room coffee table and looks quite at home there.
All in all, this project had made me more receptive to quilting; I’ve even bought fabric for my next one!
