Both my girls (age 4 and 6) have expressed interested in sewing so this morning we decided to introduce the sewing machine. For a project, we chose Peekaboo Pattern Shop’s FQ Dolly Sleeping Bag, a free pattern on their blog.
I let them do this project pretty independently. I measured the dimensions out on the fabric they chose and traced the lines with sharpie. They cut the fabric and pinned the two pieces together. My 6 year old was able to operate the machine nearly all on her own, but I operated the pedal for my 4 year old.
They, and their dollies, are quite pleased.
My oldest daughter was so inspired she also sewed a dress for her doll. It was 100% designed and executed on her own.
Did you introduce your kids to sewing? Would love some ideas for more simple projects!
