Summer is finally in full swing here in northern Canada, with temperatures going to hit 30C/86F this weekend! My oldest didn’t have too many summer clothes, so I sewed up a quick outfit that is fun for at home and the beach.
The top is my own pattern: the Simply Summer Racerback Tank (on sale for $6.50!). It is such a quick sew, especially since I used fold over elastic instead of binding to finish off the raw edges. My daughter is slim, so I cut a size 7 length and 4 width. The fabric is a nice lightweight cotton lycra from Girl Charlee.
I’ve noticed that the retro style shorts with the curved sides are really trending right now, so I was happy when I saw the perfect pattern in one of my Ottobre magazines. This is #12 Grasshopper jersey shorts from issue 3/2014. I didn’t mind if they were a bit short, so I sewed a straight size 110 and used a slightly tighter elastic than recommended. The fabric is a Patty Young interlock that I bought years ago but never had a good project for. It does have poor recovery, but that is less important for a loose fitting pair of shorts than a tee.
I think this is the last of the summer sewing for me; next week I will start with back to school!
