I am very lucky to have ‘real life’ friends who love to sew, and my friend Fenna is one of them. She is the designer behind FABulous Home Sewn and her current photo contest was extra motivation for me to sew up her Sunburst Clutch that I’ve had printed out for quite a while already.
I did make one modification to the pattern: I changed it from a clutch with a side strap, to a little girl’s purse, by moving the loops for the strap to the top. The hardware was salvaged from an old diaper bag that had reached the end of its life.
The most striking part of this pattern is the beautiful piecing on the front flap. It is a great use of those special small scraps of woven fabric you have been saving. I didn’t find it difficult, but you do have to be quite careful with the seam allowances while piecing. Luckily, my limited experience with quilting was a real big help for this project.
It is fully lined, and includes an inside zipper pocket. The clutch closes with a magnetic snap.
My daughter is absolutely thrilled, and I have another on order for my older girl! I encourage you to check out Fenna’s other patterns, and enter her fun contest; the prizes are great!
