Whenever I design a pattern, I sew up quite a few pairs before it even goes into testing. My women’s version of the Swim & Surf Shorts was no different. Many versions were just quick muslins, but I did a few pairs that will make it into my closet, and I want to share one of them with you today.
This pair is the shortest ‘swim’ length. They are sewn from a microfibre board short fabric purchased from Peak Fabrics (a great Canadian shop!). I included the sewn in briefs so I don’t have to worry about having another pair of swim bottoms when I pair them with my tankini (ahem…store bought…).
The waistband is enclosed elastic, so no closures to worry about. Bias binding encloses the curved bottom hem, and provides a clean finish to the side seam.
If you aren’t into short shorts, they come in a medium and long length as well. The pattern is versatile; sew them up in a soft cotton for a lounge short, or in a perfomance fabric for working out in.
I’m also sharing this pair as part of the Pattern Parade over at the Swhetty Bettie blog. I wrote some of my thoughts about being a designer and learning new skills. I’d love for you to go check it out 🙂
