I am so excited to be a part of Gracious Threads Embellish is for Boys blog tour. I have 4 boys and sadly, I rarely sew for them. I have been much more focused on sewing for the girls. When Jess told me the options, I had to think about it for a minute. I decided to step out of my comfort zone and do hardware. I had NO IDEA what to do. Now that I have done this, I have a million ideas and can’t wait to sew more for my boys!
I spent at least an hour walking around Joann’s looking for inspiration. I found some cool ribbed knit. After I had gotten that cut, the thought popped in my mind PARACHUTE PANTS!!!! I was like GET OUT! Perfect. I must have been saying the thoughts in my head out loud because the girl at the counter was looking at me like I was a little CRAY CRAY! But, I carried on anyway and pretended she was in on the conversation. “Don’t you think parachute pants would be the bomb!” blank stare! Allrighty then, can you point me in the right direction!
So, I went with black parachute pants and an exposed zipper. I was going to do them up and down the legs but I watched for 3 weeks and the things NEVER went on sale!
I love these pictures because you can see the zipper but mostly because you can see how tired my little man is! We left the house at 8 so I could be sure I could get some pictures before the next rain storm blew through. We had rain all day yesterday and already one storm before these pics were taken. Anyway, if you look you can see he is biting his lip. He does that when he is tired and it makes me feel like he’s still little even though he is getting so big. He is 6 after all!
I used my Sutton’s (you can save 10% on the Sutton’s all week on my website using code Embellishboys) for the pants. They worked great with this material. I did a little faux fly and then added the zipper pocket. He was really excited he could stick some treasures in that pocket because he is totally a hoarder!
I picked up a little fedora for Hudson because he LOVES hats and I just thought that would “Top Off” his outfit well! Seven bucks well spent. Thank you Wal-Mart! He loved it!
For the shirt I used the Lane Ragland from Stitchwerx Designs I always get nervous trying new patterns because of my ADHD. I loved this shirt. It had several options. I chose a color block band at the bottom and a 3/4 sleeve. This shirt went together so well that I will be making several more for the girls and boys!
I did an exposed zipper across the front. This was my first exposed zipper, EVER. While I love the look, I did not love the tutorial for it, so I will be looking for a new tutorial so I can practice so more.
I bought some trim from Joann’s with little metal studs and pulled off a row on each end which left little holes, added some leather straps and bam, “Super Cool bracelet MOM”.
Thank you so much Jess for letting me be a part of this! I had one tired boy but he earned $1.00 and some chocolate milk for a job well done.
Now, it’s nap time!
Thank you very much Lynn! I’m loving this sewing done for older boys!
