I’ve never been much of a fashionista (jeans and a tee are my daily uniform!) but I was super excited to be part of this tour. I really wanted to challenge myself, and fill in a much needed gap in my wardrobe, so I chose the ‘Company Holiday Party’.
There is nothing more timeless than a wrap dress. The pattern I chose is the Willow Wrap Dress from Love Notions. It is a faux wrap style that includes a separate pattern piece for the waistband. The bodice includes some rouching on the side: a great way to hide the post baby bulge! Because I am 5’9″, I added 1″ in length to the bodice and 2″ in length to the skirt. I didn’t really need to add the extra length to the skirt, and after looking at the pictures, think it may be more flattering rehemmed to the original length.
I used a ity knit that was purchased locally at Marshall Fabrics. Ity knit is perfect for this project; it has excellent stretch, recovery, and drape. I accessorized the dress with a pair of black pointy toed pumps, a silver clutch, and a fashion necklace.
While this look would work for most company holiday parties, I am a teacher, and our parties are a lot more casual. I wanted to show you how I could take the same dress and create a completely different look with other accessories.
I threw on my denim jacket (sleeves rolled up because my orangutan arms are too long!) and replaced the pumps with a pair of brown faux leather heeled boots. I also created some more waist definition with a braided brown leather belt.
I like both looks but think I’ll probably wear the second casual look more often. Which is your favourite?
